The most iconic piece of clothing associated with the name Fred Perry is the classic piqué cotton sports shirt. It was an instant success after its launch in 1952. Fred called it “the shirt that fits” and its slim-line shape appealed to a generation of body conscious tennis stars who appreciated the breathability of the open honeycomb weave ‘pique’ fabric. They weren’t the only ones. British youths, in particular the Mods, adopted the ‘Fred’ as their shirt of preference – smart enough to wear beneath a mohair suit, cool enough to dance in all night long. Initially it was available in single colours only. The famous collar and cuff tipping were added in the late 1950’s after requests from football fans to include team colours on their beloved shirts.
The Fred Perry Shirt sold today remains exactly the same as its predecessors. A timeless classic, the perfect mix of form and function. A suitable legacy for a working class lad from Stockport who became a British icon.
Last year Fred Perry asked their loyal fanbase to ‘Tell Us Your Story’ by inviting them to share their memories and experiences of one of the World’s most iconic brands. The response was phenomenal, with thousands of stories, photographs, video and cinefilm
uploaded to fredperry.com/tellusyourstory. 6 of the images have been chosen to run as our 2011 ad campaign including Scared to Change, Tranquility, Top Button Done and Special.
Following the incredible success of Tell Us Your Story, Fred Perry has teamed up with multi -award winning film and documentary maker Don Letts. Don has been commissioned to produce six short documentaries that will track the unique relationship Fred Perry has developed with British street style and Subcultures. It will be released worldwide in 2012. For your chance to appear in this unique series of films - we are looking for your
original archive film or video footage from 1952 onwards. It can be from any of the Subcultures. Or just you talking about how you started wearing Fred Perry and what it means to you.

Fred Perry Subculture launches Sub-Sonic Live, a new concept in live music and club culture, for London. Celebrating Fred Perry's unique relationship to music and street style since the 1950s, Sub-Sonic Live promises acts that, until now, would never have appeared on the same line up, bringing together the best new music and music heritage from the past 50 years, alongside amazing DJs.
Split across three floors, each with their own diverse musical personality, Sub-Sonic Live will take place at The Garage, Islington on the third Friday of each month, from 9.30pm - 2.00am.
The Main Room will play host to the latest emerging music, whilst the Legends Room will provide a stage for musicians, labels or movements that have enjoyed an association with the Fred Perry brand. The Discovery Room will reinforce the commitment to new music, focussing on a different breaking trend every month.
