I bought this camera after reading and watching many reviews about the D5100, it doesn't seem to matter where I looked for the reviews, it always seemed to get a fair but excellent review! I am just starting out in the photography world, but with this camera and a few extra tools for help I'm sure I am going to do quite well.
The D5100 is easy to use once you get to grips with the controls and understand the individual settings, I would recommend buying a book on the D5100 as the manual does not cover everything.
I would recommend this camera if you are beginning photography as a hobby, or a profession, are moving on from point and shoot to DSLR's or just want a camera that takes excellent high quality photo's!

This camera is superb.I had the D3100 which is a great little camera but this offers more in creativity,an although the D3100 took great pictures this camera takes better ones.The reason is that it has the same sensor as the much more expensive D7000.So if your on a budget by this camera an save the extra cash on the D7000 on some good lenses,you won't be disappointed.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I take the camera with me everywhere, it turns on and is ready to snap away instantly with no delay, perfect for snapping energetic children with the fast shutter speeds and the built in scenes and effects available in live mode and viewfinder add a real impact to your photos, the colours are vibrant and are of exceptional quality. This camera is a perfect learner start off DSLR right the way to a professional level use. Excellent product which I can't fault.
