I'm not a toast fanatic, but I like this toaster - it IS well designed.
It's a bit bulky in size, but this is acceptable because it looks good (makes your kitchen look like it's got something in it!).
It does actually heat evenly & the slots are wide for home-cut bread, but it just doesn't slide down far enough & this leaves a part of the bread un-toasted (the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars), but I can live with this. The controls are well placed and are self-explanatory.
Overall, it does exactly what it says on the box - toasts bread lol. I am pleased... not vexed, irritated or frustrated; pleased.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      great toaster fits all size bread, unlike some toasters, recommend for the price it is top range.
      I have previously spent a lot of money on toasters and had uneven cooking but this one is fab
