When we say knows him - we mean his wardrobe! You see Stef' is our ace Menswear visual merchandiser (fashion speak for knowing what looks good on the blokes fashion front). She's responsible for picking pieces from our collections and putting them together as outfits for our photographic sessions. So she's really got her finger on the 'what works' pulse. You'll see what we mean because we've asked her to pick the key pieces she says need to be part of a fashion savvy lads look right now. Her 10 picks cover the bases, from total dress-down to smart-casual - here's what she's thinking along with her notes.
Hi Tops - definitely my casual footwear fav' at the moment! And I say - be brave - go bold - go for standout. Supra's like these are proving mega popular with the boys in the know. So cool with Dark Denim or Chinos (both slim cut of course) plus Check Shirt (see below). Go guys - get 'em while they're hot... red hot. Ha! Girls - if needs be, twist his arm and tell him where it's at.
Yes, you know by now Chinos are a staple. Have been for a good few seasons, and that's set to continue right through winter and beyond. Thing is they're amazing value for money because they really do multi-task. One minute rolled up with the Hi Tops above, next dressed to impress with the Brogues below. If a dog's a mans best friend - Chinos are a close second!.
Another 'wear all sorts of ways' piece. Sleeves rolled up, layered over T-shirt, under jumpers - hey even tied around the waist works if your fella's a funky fashion follower! Add cord patches to the sleeves to differentiate a bit and - bobs your uncle - a shirt that's dead wearable almost anytime, right on-trend and totally affordable - especially when you consider our low weekly prices!.
Camouflage print is back big time for A/W 13. And I love it. So rugged and manly (I could go on) but right at the top of the trend chart too. Good thing is, jackets like this are lightweight, so the ideal ‘bung’ over anything option for the transition between late Summer into Autumn (and on to Winter with knitwear underneath - see below or pop online for loads more fab alternatives). My advice is - it’s fairly full-on, so pair with plain pieces to let the print do the style talking.
Neutral or colour pop? Hmmm. Heck, do both - check out the price - they're amazing value. For me, well you can probably guess, I'm going to say go bright - but I know neutral's got its place too. Versatile is becoming a bit of a theme here - but it's so true of the Polo. Chinos with a Blazer (again see below) - fab, or just by itself with Denim - just as fab, just as 'now,'' and confidently cool.
Do you reckon you can get him to do it? Nautical stripe, quirky bright Chinos - then that nicely modern, tailored twist to the classic Blazer. This is the look!!! It's smart without being stuffy, preppy without being to extravert. His mates will have something to say - but you watch, in no time at all they'll be Blazer boys too
A dead easy wardrobe update. Slim is in. And finish detail is a must-do. If there's one piece he puts his hand in his pocket for, I reckon it's these. If it's your purse that's going to be consulted - don't forget - weekly prices make all the difference. He doesn't need to know that though, so make sure he's Mr Gratitude!
Retro Grandad tops have dipped on and off the fashion radar for years - but right now they are most definitely back - big time! Put with jeans or chinos, plus flat laced trainers like Converse for a very vintage vibe. Click below to get all the details for this Goodsouls version and long sleeved alternatives too
Tail end of Summer into Autumn - just the time for nice new fine Knitwear me thinks. I know you are probably looking at this one thinking 'well that's just a plain grey pully'. Well true, but laid back simplicity plus, say, colourful Chinos, just looks so effortlessly stylish. Because it's quite neutral it's so easy to add to as well. Nothing in the neck or a Print Shirt peeping out, Chinos as I've said, then the Brogues below. Or he could go for the Lord Disick look (aka Scott from the Kardashians) and just wear loose over the shoulder, tied by the sleeves. Chap-chic in an instant!
And make them that gorgeous golden tan. Classic gentleman cool at its most contemporary. Get him doing chores for you that involve a bit of walking! Why? Because the more 'lived in' they look the better (and the more Kardashians you can catch up on whilst he's putting them through their paces). Always thinking!
