this is brilliant people say its rubbish as long as u clean filter every couple of day, give it a wash and make sure the filter above dustbin is clear of pet hair ect then it works as good as new every time u use it!

I use this Vacuum cleaner in my flat mainly (odd as it may seem) to vacuum clean my carpets. The machine is very very good at this. As an initial test I cleaned a section of carpet at the top of my stairs with my old Electrolux 1500 'The Boss' vacuum cleaner and then followed up with the VAX Power 8 Pet which removed a lot more dirt than I expected from a just cleaned carpet.
As for its weight it is not at all heavy and is quite a bit lighter than the Electrolux it is replacing.
Assembly of the machine was straight forward as was use. The sound level from the machine was louder than my Electrolux but not as loud as expected from reading the previous reviews.
The wide base does prevent the machine from tipping UNLESS the hose is stretched beyond its intended reach.
The machine falling on you when used on stairs is NOT an issue provided you use it as safety dictates, from the bottom of the stairs and working upwards. When reading some of the previous reviews I noted many complaints regarding the need to repeatedly clean filters and empty the waste canister.
Well, at the risk of stating the obvious the filters need cleaning regularly and the canister emptying fairly often because the cleaner does its job so well. If it is getting out the dirt the filter will block and the canister will fill, that is what happens.
If the canister did not fill up and the filter did not require cleaning then the machine is not doing its job as it should and this VAX machine does its job very well indeed.
A few Cons.
The plastic from which the machine is made is a little soft. This together with the screws having a rounded base to the head as opposed to a flat base means it is quite easy to pull the screw through the plastic when tightening them during assembly. This apart I have not found any other problems as yet, I have only had the machine for 5 hours but from what I have noted so far I don't expect to find any major or insurmountable problems.

I use the vac down stairs on both carpet amd wood floors it delivers great results, i am very happy with my purchase and i will deffo recommend to friends and family :-)
