Melville Bissell patented his first carpet sweeper in 1876 to help his wife with the daily chore of hand cleaning their crockery shop. Seven years later the first BISSELL manufacturing plant was built in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the family run company (boasting Americas first female corporate CEO in Anna Bissell) expanded globally, taking its unique, ingenious and affordable cleaning products worldwide.
