Why should I buy Littlewoods Protect - Furniture? Is my new furniture likely to break?

Even the most reliable products and brands can develop structural defects. As your furniture gets older there’s a higher likelihood that it could develop a structural defect. Littlewoods Protect - Furniture provides protection for up to 5 years, giving you the peace of mind that you wouldn't need to pay for a repair or replacement if your product developed a fault within this time. The cover for structural defects starts on the expiry of the manufacturer’s warranty period.

The policy also covers you for accidental damage including staining, rips, tears & burns from the day your furniture is despatched. The cover excludes some situations for example; not taking care of your item, wilful abuse or misuse and wear and tear.

Will I be covered under my home contents insurance?

Please check your household insurance policy carefully to see what you are covered for. Typically your household insurance will not cover you for structural defects and may not cover you for accidental damage. You may also be covered if you hold any other insurance products so please check these thoroughly too.

With your home insurance you may also need to pay an excess charge and your premiums may increase as a result of making a claim. With Littlewoods Protect - Furniture structural and accidental damage is included as standard with no excess to pay. If you have existing policies such as these that give the same cover elsewhere, you will need to consider whether you may be paying for duplicate cover by purchasing Littlewoods Protect - Furniture.

Won't my product come with a manufacturer's warranty?

Most manufacturers offer a 12-month warranty against any structural defects, but they may not include cover for accidental damage. With Littlewoods Protect - Furniture you'll be covered for up to 5 years. Accidental damage will be covered from day one and you will be covered for structural defects once your manufacturer's warranty ends.

Does Littlewoods Protect - Furniture protect against Accidental Damage?

Yes. With Littlewoods Protect - Furniture you will have accidental damage cover from day one.

Isn't Littlewoods Protect - Furniture expensive?

The cost of Littlewoods Protect - Furniture is small compared to the amount you may have to pay to repair or replace your item.

Will my Littlewoods Protect - Furniture cover end if I have any repairs?

No. Your Furniture cover will continue after you have had a repair and you can make an unlimited number of repair claims on this policy. The cover only ends if an alternative settlement is provided.

Can I only buy Littlewoods Protect - Furniture for products I've bought from you?

Yes, unfortunately we can't offer Littlewoods Protect - Furniture for products bought elsewhere.

Is there an excess to pay on Littlewoods Protect - Furniture in the event of a claim?

No. There is no excess to pay on the policy if you make a claim.

How do I make a claim?

The claims process is really straightforward. Register your claim online at claim.castelangroup.com or call the claims team, click here for details

Claims should be registered as soon as possible, following the fault being identified and no longer than 28 days after noticing the damage. If you report a claim after 28 days we may not consider your claim, claims outside this timeframe will be considered on a case by case basis.

If my product has a structural defect, do I have rights under the Consumer rights Act?

The benefits offered under Littlewoods Protect - Furniture are in addition to your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Under this Act, if the product you purchase is subsequently found to be defective then you will be entitled to a remedy such as a repair, a replacement or a refund. This legal right lasts for up to 6 years (5 years in Scotland). If the product proves defective in the first 30 days after purchase then you may reject the goods and request a full refund. Thereafter, you will be entitled to a repair or replacement but if those remedies are not possible then you can claim a full, or partial, refund depending on the age of the goods. Can product insurance be bought elsewhere?

You may be able to buy similar cover from other insurers, manufacturer's, some other retailers and specialist online providers, but they may not provide the same level of support or service as Littlewoods Protect - Furniture.

If my furniture has a structural defect whilst under manufacturer's warranty, who should I contact?

You must contact Littlewoods (Shop Direct Home Shopping) as structural defects within the manufacturer’s warranty are not covered by this insurance.

I've decided that I don't want Littlewoods Protect - Furniture cover any longer. Can I cancel the policy and get a refund?

You can cancel your policy at any time. You can do this by emailing mypolicy@castelangroup.com or by writing to Finance Administration, Castelan Group, Alpha House, Sunnyside Road North, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, BS23 3QY, or you can call us click here for details. You can also find these details in the Insure & Protect page here and in your policy Terms and Conditions. You will need to quote your Certificate Number and let us know your reason for cancelling your policy. 

If you cancel your policy within 28 days of taking out the cover you'll receive a full refund of your premiums. If you cancel your policy after 28 days you will receive a pro rata refund based on the number of unexpired months remaining. If you have made a successful repair claim before you cancel your policy, the cost of the claim will be deducted from the refund due to you.

What is Buy Now Pay Later?
Buy Now Pay Later is an interest bearing option that allows you to delay payments on your purchases for up to 12 months. The delayed payment period starts from the date of order (including pre-ordered items and those not ready for immediate dispatch).

You can choose:
A delayed payment period of 12 months and then a repayment period of 104 weeks when you spend £50 or more.
A delayed payment period of 12 months and then a repayment period of 156 weeks when you spend £99 or more.

How interest is calculated?
Interest will be charged for the delayed payment period and the chosen repayment period.

Interest is calculated and compounded daily at a typical rate of 44.9% per annum for the delayed payment period and repayment period and is charged to your account at date of order as a lump sum. This calculation factors in the planned payments that are requested during the repayment period. Your interest rate is personal to you and will be detailed in checkout.

How to avoid paying interest?
You can avoid paying all interest for both periods by paying the cash price before the end of the delayed payment period. This can be done in one full payment or multiple partial payments.

Making partial payments may result in a portion of the lump sum of compound interest being refunded at the end of the delayed payment period.

Remember if you choose not to pay the full cash price before the end of the delayed payment period any outstanding balance plus the lump sum of compound interest applied at the date of order will become payable.

How do I make a Buy Now Pay Later payment?
To make a full or partial payment simply log into My Account, choose "Make a payment", select "Pay Buy Now Pay Later" and allocate your payment to the specific item(s) you wish to pay off. Alternatively, you can call us.

What happens after the delayed payment period?
If you have not made any payments towards your Buy Now Pay Later, the outstanding balance plus the lump sum of compound interest will be payable across your chosen repayment period. This will now be included in your account minimum payment request each month.

If you have made partial payments, but not cleared the full cash price before the end of the delayed payment period, the outstanding balance plus a reduced lump sum of compound interest will become payable. The repayment amount agreed for the repayment period will remain the same, meaning the repayment period may be shorter than originally agreed.
If you have paid the cash price in full before the end of the delayed payment period, you will not pay any interest.

What is excluded from Buy Now Pay Later?
The costs for delivery, installation services and any warranty and insurance products cannot be placed on Buy Now Pay Later. Buy Now Pay Later availability is subject to your credit and account status.

Do I still have to pay my minimum payment?
Yes, allocating payments to Buy Now Pay Later will not cover the minimum payment for your Littlewoods account. If you have a non-Buy Now Pay Later balance on your Littlewoods account, you will still need to make at least your minimum payment as shown on your statement.
